The Western and Southern Open has officially begun here in Cincinnati!
The 2017 Western and Southern Open is taking place August 12th thru 20th at The Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio. The tennis tournament was first played in 1899 on what today is Xavier University. The best tennis players from around the country, including Rafa Nadal, Serena Williams, and Rodger Federer, visit the Cincinnati area to compete. Proceeds from the event go to Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Barrett Cancer Center, and Tennis for City Youth.
The Western and Southern Open is proud to be a Masters 1000 event on the ATP World Tour and a Premier 5 WTA women’s event this year. To view the list of players competing, click here.
Lindner Family Tennis Center
The Lindner Family Tennis Center became home to the Cincinnati Masters in 1979 when fear of the Ohio River flooding the original venue forced tournament organizers to search for a new location. The Center includes four permanent tennis stadiums (Center Court, Grandstand Court, Court 3, and Court 9), making it one of two world tennis venues with more than two permanent stadiums. It also holds media and fan luxury suites, a Player Center that was built in 2010, and recent expansions and upgrades to the grounds, entrance, food courts and exhibits areas. The Lindner Family Tennis Center was named after the family of Carl Lindner, Jr., a former tournament sponsor and Cincinnati native. It is now owned by Tennis for Charity, Inc.
