The Difference Between a Studio Apartment and One Bedroom Apartment

There are an array of apartment styles to choose from in major cities to fit any renter’s needs, budget, and taste.  The most popular option we see for single renters at Cincy Rents are studio apartments and one bedroom apartments in Cincinnati.  Although most renters view the options of a studio or one bedroom apartment interchangeable, the obvious main difference is a one bedroom apartment consists of a living room, kitchen, a bathroom, and a separate bedroom.  While a studio apartment is known for combining living and sleeping spaces.

Studio Apartments

Studio apartments provide renters the ability to get into more convenient or upscale locations in Cincinnati with more affordable pricing options.  Studio apartments combine all aspects of living (dining, cooking, entertaining, and sleeping) and are ideal for single residents.  These residents typically see the advantage of their studio apartment being smaller with lower renting fees than a one bedroom and may spend majority of their time outside of their home using it mainly for sleeping purposes.

Sometimes studio apartments will feature a loft or alcove area for a more private sleeping option.  If not available, renters will often use partitions to section off their living spaces creating the feeling of walls.  Another hurdle renters might be faced with in smaller studio apartments is the lack of storage options.  Many renters are able to use their creativeness and purchasing unique storage options to overcome any space limitations.  Studio apartment renters typically take the disadvantage of space by streamlining their possessions to declutter their living space.

The benefits of studio apartments in Cincinnati over a one bedroom apartment include lower rent options.  Studio apartments allow renters to live on their own without the need of a roommate to make rent each month.  The smaller space of studio apartments means lower utility bills for renters when it comes to heating and cooling and electrics.

One Bedroom Apartments

Single renters who desire more living space with more than one room typically prefer a one bedroom apartment over studio apartments.  Especially if they enjoy having people over and want the separation of living and entertaining spaces that one bedroom apartments provide.  One bedroom apartments in Cincinnati can vary on the amount of space offered.  A basic one bedroom apartment will feature a bedroom, living room, kitchen, and a bathroom, but could also offer a balcony, outdoor space, yard, or additional storage rooms.  These options can be a deciding factor for renters wanting more space than a studio apartment has to offer.  These extra features can also be the reason for higher renting fees associated with one bedroom apartments.

Deciding between a Studio Apartment or a One Bedroom Apartment

So how do renters typically decide if a studio apartment or a one bedroom apartment will meet their needs more?  Typically if you can afford a one bedroom apartment in Cincinnati, then you would not have trouble affording a studio apartment since it comes with a lower monthly fee.  In this case, most renters would need to weigh the pros and cons for which apartment living style would fit them best.  Maybe you are trying to save money in order to purchase a home in a couple of years and a studio apartment would help you succeed this goal.  Or maybe you enjoy decor and entertaining and a studio apartment would seem to suffocating and require the additional rental of storage space for unused furniture, etc.  Each renter’s needs and desires are different, just like each apartment available for rent.  At Cincy Rents we offer a number of desirable studio apartments and one bedroom apartments throughout the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio area, including Hyde Park, Oakley, Clifton (near the University of Cincinnati), Madisonville, Mariemont, Mt. Lookout, and Covington.  Click here to view our Cincinnati apartment listings or contact us
